About

(long version): I am a South Carolina native who has dedicated my career to our students' achievement. After passing 10 College Board Advanced Placement exams at Spartanburg High School (1998) and earning the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship, I attended the University of South Carolina Honors College (2002) and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with a French minor. As an undergrad, I tutored in USC's athletic department and worked as a resident advisor. I completed a Master in Teaching Secondary Math degree (2003) before teaching for 3 years at Spartanburg High School. 

I then attended Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and earned a Master of Divinity degree (2009). While in Massachusetts, I owned and operated Golden Apple Tutoring, an elite math tutoring company on the North Shore. After moving back to SC, I returned to the classroom and led Dorman High School's AP Calculus program for 3 years. In an effort to impact more students, I left the classroom in 2013 to start SC Test Prep as Executive Director, and I now operate as Human Prep by Derrick Smith.

I spend most of my time caring for my 4 sons.
